Fournz Post Trade Deadline Recap

The bell has rung and we are about two hours from the last official trade. We had a very busy day as you can go check out all the trades we had on the previous blog that was released today. But what I want to get into more detail about trades that happened before the deadline and some that happened today.

First trade I want to talk about is the Charlie Coyle trade. The full trade was:

Boston receives: Charlie Coyle

Minnesota receives: Ryan Donato and a 5th Round Pick

I think this sets up Minnesota for the future bringing in a Ryan Donato who was an absolute stud at Harvard. Nevermind when he first came to Boston after his senior season he started making a name for himself. Donato was a part of the Olympic team last year lets also not forget about that. I get that we didn’t get NHL players in 2018 but still that’s an honor and a hard spot to get on a team representing your country at the biggest stage.

Charlie Coyle brings in a type of player that will be solid behind Bergeron and Krecji. The Bruins are loading up their team as much as they can to make a deep run into the playoffs. Which I believe is highly possible, I don’t see a lot of teams in the East beating them in a 7 game series. The Bruins also added Marcus Johansson. The full trade was:

Boston receives: Marcus Johansson

New Jersey receives: 2nd Round Pick 2019/4th Round Pick 2020

So the B’s are loaded up and ready to go. I hate saying that as a Habs fan but watch out for this team man. I see them making a legitimate run this year. If I had to guess these guys are either going to Conference Finals or the Stanley Cup finals.

Nashville made two trades today which didn’t surprise me. But one of the trades did. Nashville official trades today:

Nashville receives: Wayne Simmonds

Philadelphia receives: Ryan Hartman and 4th Round Conditional Pick in 2020

Nashville receives: Markus Granlund

Minnesota receives: Kevin Fiala

I’ve always loved Fiala and think he is a solid player with potential. He’s one of those grinders with skill and he can fly as well. Wayne Simmonds to Smashville is something I love. Bringing in a guy like him adds some heaviness up front and a player that will definitely shine in the playoffs. I have faith that can work out for them. Nashville will be making another run at the cup this year. There biggest rival? The most busiest team on deadline day, the Winnipeg Jets.

Winnipeg loaded up on players today. They grabbed Kevin Hayes, Matt Hendricks, Par Lindholm, Bogdan Kiselevich, Nathan Beaulieu. They grabbed a lot of depth and a player that will be important to them in the playoffs. Kevin Hayes was a great pickup for a team like Winnipeg and I’m excited to see how he will pan out there. With the injury to Jonathan Morrissey that’s why Winnipeg was loading up on a couple D man.

A sneaky trade that happened at midnight today was from San Jose. They grabbed a good forward in Gustav Nyquist, full trade being:

San Jose receives: Gustav Nyquist

Detriot receives: 2nd Round Pick in 2019 and a 3rd Round Conditional pick in 2020

San Jose grabs a forward that can score for them. They have a great team over there in the bay and are a force to be reckon with. This deal only makes them more dangerous. Watch out for the Sharks come April.

Another trade that went under the radar is the Brandon Montour trade to Buffalo. Full trade:

Buffalo receives: Brandon Montour

Anaheim receives: Brandon Guhle and a First Round Conditional Pick 2019

Buffalo brings in a solid defenseman. Brandon Guhle will be a solid NHL defenseman one day. But Buffalo needs to start winning now. They have the players to be a playoff team, and they’re right in the hunt. This move will give them a boost going into the final stretch.

Last trade that I wanted to recap today is the biggest one of them all that is Ottawa and Vegas making the biggest announcement in the last hour of deadline day.

Vegas receives: Mark Stone (signed him to an 8 year 9.5 AAV contract)

Ottawa receives: Erik Brannstrom, Oscar Lindberg, 2nd Round Pick in 2020

Alright so Mark Stone is a guy that Ottawa fans wanted resigned and to become their Captain in the near future. Well those dreams were crushed today as he will never wear the Senators jersey again. But Ottawa I know its been hard and the organization has been a dumpster fire but one day it will all be alright. You received an unbelievable prospect somebody that is drawing comparisons to I’m sorry but Erik Karlsson. Erik Brannstrom is going to be absolute stud very soon for the Senators. They got a pretty solid return I believe. Now Vegas with a move like this is solidifying their teams future and the likes of making another run at Lord Stanley. I love this trade for them, Mark Stone is an unreal player and he is going to score goals for that team for a long time.

One more thing before I wrap everything up. Columbus you have giving up a lot of pieces to the future to receive some very good hockey players such as Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel. You grabbed a goalie like Keith Kinkaid. You guys are in for a run and I’d buckle up if this team gets hot. This is all in an attempt to keep Panarin and Bob I believe but only time will tell! Well hockey fans after an exciting day today. We got playoff hockey for the rest of the season basically, best time of the year fans. Buckle the F*** up.
