Dr. Fauci is giving us hope for a sports comeback this summer

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert and one of the faces of the United States’ fight against the coronavirus, says the only way professional sports will happen this summer is to do so without fans in attendance and by keeping players in hotels.

“There’s a way of doing that,” Fauci told Snapchat’s Peter Hamby as part of a weeklong interview series. “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put [the players] in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled. … Have them tested every single week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family, and just let them play the season out.”

Fauci, who specifically addressed a question about an abbreviated baseball season and football starting, said he thought there would be enough interest from fans to watch games, even if they could not attend.

Good news coming at us bright and early this morning from Dr. Fauci. In his interview with Snapchat he reassured us that we still have a very real possibility at having sports this summer! I am trying not to get my hopes up too much but it’s hard. This week we would’ve been watching a Yankees v Rangers series but instead we’re watching highlights from 1995 on ESPN. First and foremost is player safety. If that can happen, I want sports back tomorrow. I don’t care if I can’t attend a game until the fall, I just want to start gambling again.

Two more parts of the Snapchat interview with Dr. Fauci are scheduled to be released Thursday and Friday. I’m hoping we have more details or good news that will come along with that release. Yesterday, President Trump made this statement during his briefing;

A call with all major leagues is coming soon and like anything else, all we can do is hope it is good news.
